Brian Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys, is considered one of the most influential pop composers of the 20th century, known for his innovative songwriting and approach to music production. His use of the music studio as an instrument continues to be a subject of fascination and inspiration for recording artists today.
Teenage Symphony to God: The Life & Music of Brian Wilson: The book’s chronological narrative consists of material from a variety of sources, showing glimpses of Wilson’s dynamic life and career from the perspectives of those closest to him as well as his own. I wanted to express the theme of “voices.” This is inspired by Wilson’s lush harmony arrangements that formed the Beach Boys’ signature sound, and references his struggle with mental illness. I also expanded the story into spatial dimensions with a proposed interactive installation for the Grammy Museum in Hollywood, CA.
