The Museum of Jurassic Technology is a small museum in Los Angeles, California, self-described as “an educational institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and the public appreciation of the Lower Jurassic.” The Museum is known for being one of the city’s more peculiar attractions. Its exhibits showcase obscure historical artifacts, a mix of natural and manmade objects that resist being categorized.
My intention for this rebranding was the update the Museum’s identity to be more accessible to the public while retaining its mysterious and esoteric qualities. I highlighted one exhibition at the museum “The Lives of Perfect Creatures” which focuses on the famous canine cosmonauts, the first earthborn space explorers. These missions and the fate of these dogs were closely followed around the world.

1) Full poster display. 2) Display with indication of dog tags at planned heights (approximate).
My extension to “The Lives of Perfect Creatures” would communicate more of the story of these space missions. I designed dog tags, each one representing a single flight, to be hung in front of a wall display indicating the timeline of flights and the altitude they achieved.
The wall display features photographs of the cosmonauts who were placed on those missions. Successful flights where the cosmonauts survived are indicated, along with the unsuccessful flights. Visitors would be invited to approach the display and to touch and read the tags.
